    Hello mandfunk,

The image is NOT corrupt. The corrupt image error is from trying to open the file. DO NOT open the file. Follow the instructions to properly load it into the GUI of the WCB6200Q.

Well, thank you for that.  Three of your tech support people told me I needed to extract it by opening the file.  If even asked if I should open it or just save it, and they all thought that opening it was fine.  Extracting a file always requires clicking on it to open it.  If they said "don't open the file...just save it and upload it" it would have been more clear.
Pull the tapes...you'll see what I mean.  Also, a .img file is very unusual to use for a firmware update.

I did the firmware update.  Update accepted.  Thank you!  However, now the power light comes on red all the time.  What is causing that?

    Question:

Hi!  Question on splitters for this device.  My house has an 8 way splitter rated at 5-1000 MHz, 130dB RFI.  Do I need to swap that out with a wider frequency range?  If I do, what is the recommended range?

    Thank you

    mandfunk,

We used to post zip files but too many users had problems following instructions to extract the file so we started posting the img file instead so no extraction was necessary.

With the new firmware the power light will come on and stay red until the unit gets an IP address from a DHCP server.

Yes, splitters need to support the frequency range of at least 5-1675 MHz.

Thank you!  Well, I have a red light now...when I called your tech support about it yesterday, I was told the red light was because my WCB6200Q was defective so I ordered another one!

I am sorry about the misinformation you were provided. We have refreshed the support team regarding the led coloring.

Wow! It works! I am actually getting faster speeds from my Actiontec VCB6200Q wireless network extender (108 Mbps) than I am getting from my hardwired Asus RT-AC3200 router (95 Mbps)!

This is astonishing.  Think about it...my desktop is connected via ethernet cable directly to my router and cable modem sitting 2 feet away, and I am seeing 95 Mbps.  On the other side of my house from my cable modem, is my Actiontec VCB6200Q, connected to the coax port coming out of the wall.  Without being hardwired, using only the wireless signal, my laptop is connect at 108 Mbps!  That's crazy!  My wireless speed should not be faster , but it is.

    Thank you Actiontech!

The firmware link above seems not to work anymore. Is there an updated one? Thank you.

    Thomas,

We apologize. We recently moved our file servers.

The firmware download link is now working again.

Thank you, the firmware link worked. However, I keep getting an install error. The firmware present version is 1.02.3.4 and is only connecting sporadically to a gocoax adapter. I have already checked the splitters, selected the low band, and replaced cables. It works great when it does connect.

    Thomas,

The reason you get the error is because the unit you have is an discontinued ISP device. The NCS firmware will not work as stated above.

Great answer, thank you. I will return it and get the NCS VERSION.

I received 2 ActionTec WCB6200Q extenders for Christmas.  One came with Firmware Version 1.1.10.20 and the other with 1.2.03.4.  The first one has 8 Wireless IDs (four 2.4GHz and four 5 GHz).   The second one only has 2 Wireless IDs (a 2.4 and a 5).

I'm assuming it's because of the whole discontinued ISP vs. NCS issue above.  My question is, if they were both ordered from the screenbeam Amazon site, how did I end up with 2 different items?  Also, if I need to get a replacement, how can I tell when I'm buying it whether it's a discontinued ISP or NCS version?  Thanks!

We used to be able to log into the Actiontec WCB6200Q, though we haven't done that for a while. Recently we upgraded to a new modem and router, and we tried to log into the WCB6200Q, but couldn't. We tried both the original 192.168.99.254 or the new IP assigned by the router. Is resetting to factory default our only option now?

If you switched routers and the router is set to DHCP you will have to see what IP address the new router is giving your WCB6200Q then use that IP address to access the WCB6200. If that doesn't work you will need to connect directly to your WCB6200Q with an ethernet cable and statically set an IP addressing the same range of the WCB6200Q

I tried using the IP address the new router assigned the WCB6200Q, but it didn't work. I tried connecting directly with an ethernet, and that also didn't work (either with the old IP or the new). I don't know what "statically set an IP addressing the same range of the WCB6200Q" mean.

So what's now the latest firmware version?

Is that information maintained somewhere consistently?

    Tom,

This is the latest firmware for the retail WCB6200Q device. The ISPs that sell or give out the ISP-specific WCB6200Qs do not allow us to post their firmware and your device is ISP-specific, not retail. If you had a retail device this would be the latest firmware and this would be the page to find that information.

Can I ask where you got your device?
